Frequently Asked Questions

Who is this offer valid for?

This offer is valid for those suffering disc injuries such as a bulging, herniated or prolapsed disc in the neck or back, as well as, degenerative disc disease.

What is Spinal Decompression Therapy (IDD Therapy)?

IDD Therapy is the fastest growing, non-surgical treatment for spinal disc injuries. It is completely safe, gentle and non-invasive. IDD Therapy helps to alleviate pain and promotes healing to get you back to your normal activities.

IDD Therapy was designed by spinal surgeons to heal disc injuries naturally without the need of injections or surgery. It uses advanced technology to decompress precise segments of the spine which takes pressure off the discs and nerves to relieve pain. Through its use of oscillation technology, it promotes healing by gently pumping and rehydrating the discs with fluid and nutrients. It also relaxes muscle spasms and mobilises the joints to restore your movement back.

Treatments are tailored to your needs and our skilled therapists will work closely with you to monitor your progress and get you out of pain.

What if I don't have any disc issues, but I have back pain?

At Fern Clinic we specialise in treatment for most types of back pain and can still help. Just complete the form above and a member of our team will be in touch to discuss your problem and book you in for a discounted consultation.

What is the difference between an Osteopath, Chiropractor and Physiotherapist?

Although all three professions can be used to treat the same health conditions, they differ in their philosophy and approach to treatment. They are each regulated by their own statutory bodies in the UK and are recognised as Allied Healthcare within the NHS. We recommend choosing someone you feel comfortable with.

Do I need a doctor's referral?

No, you do not need to be referred by a Doctor to see us. Osteopathy is part of the NHS Allied Health Professionals network and is a form of alternative medicine.

What is your new patient procedure?

All new patients will need to have an initial consultation.

MEDICAL HISTORY

We will discuss your health concerns and take your medical history. Please bring details on any medications you are taking and scan results if you have them.

PHYSICAL ASSESSMENT

You may be asked to undress in order for the Osteopath to correctly assess your posture and injury. It is recommended to wear loose fitting clothing e.g. t-shirt/vest, loose trousers or shorts/leggings. The Osteopath will perform some orthopaedic tests to diagnose your problem and if necessary, may refer you for further investigations (MRI or Ultrasound scans).

TREATMENT

Once a diagnosis has been reached, your Osteopath will discuss a treatment plan with you and suggest the approximate number of sessions that will be suitable. You will be offered treatment as part of the consultation and may be given some exercises. Your Osteopath may also advise on lifestyle and dietary adjustments to aid in the healing process. In the event that osteopathy is unsuitable for your problem you will be referred to the correct healthcare modality.

What should I wear?

It is recommended to wear comfortable loose fitting clothing e.g. shorts or leggings. Your Osteopath may ask you to undress to assess your posture and spine.

How many treatment sessions will I need?

This will depend on your problem or injury. However, every "body" is different and will heal at a different rate depending on various factors including your age, general health, occupation, lifestyle and diet.

Can you refer me for a scan?

Yes, we can refer patients for MRI and Ultrasound scans if we deem it necessary.

How do I get to the clinic? Is there parking?

Although our address states Ashley Road, the clinic is actually located on Leigh Road which is just around the corner from Thornley Grove's estate agents.

There is a patient parking spot on the clinic driveway and free bay parking for 1 or 2 hrs on both Leigh and Ashley Road. Nearby paid parking is available at Cecil Road East car park which is a 5 minute walk.
